Feliz Cinco de Mayo

Remember that all students must have an up to date physical for each school year. The physical must be within a calendar year.

The school doctor will be here on May 18 at 8 am. If you need a physical, see the nurse for the papers.

Also, you will all need a NEW Mantoux test in the fall unless you get one from your physician

What's New!

Let me introduce "Thing" this is the arm that we use to learn to take blood pressures. You can plug in a speaker or you can use a stethoscope. Either way it is really neat to be able to hear a blood pressure on a manikin!
Now on to the humans :)

Now that you are back into the swing of things, there are a few reminders. Be mindful of the dress code. Remember no facial piercings or visible tattoos, even if it is a half day!

Be sure to study that medical terminology, you will thank yourself later

First Day of School

Well, here I am back at school getting ready for all of you to come back to a brand new year of fun and excitement!

Becca emailed me with a good question. Do we have to wear our scrubs on the first day? Well the answer is no, you don't have to. If you want to, go ahead, I am :)

See everyone tomorrow

Updated Physicals

This is a reminder that your physical must be current. (within the last year) so if your physical was before September 08, you are out of date. Please contact your physician's office now to make an appointment. No current physical, no clinical. We will be starting clinical in October.

You will also need to get a new Tb test. We will issue the permission slips on the first day. Please have them signed and return them to school. The Mrs Thomopson will oversee the tests.

If you have any reason to object to the Tb test, a current chest x-ray will do.

:)

Seniors, you need to start thinking about whether or not you want to go out on co-op. I believe you must wait until at least mid term before you are allowed to go.

Juniors, start saving your money for the CNA exam. It is $96 to take the test. I will be glad to take even $1 at a time.

Remember Our New Name

Reminder to all that our new name is Allied Health. We changed the name of our program because the title of "Allied Health" is more well know than Health Careers.

The term , allied health, indicates professions associated within the health arena, such as nursing assistants, radiology tech, respiratory tech.... and so on. The change will also help when applying for college or a job.

This is a transition year for the new name so please do not be upset if someone still refers to us as Health Careers

:) See you soon

Almost Spring!!

These are just some candid shots from the shop!

Hello girls and boys!
Well, the time is now racing fast towards the summer. We are now in the last cycle of the second trimester. What does that mean?? It means the CNA test will be very soon for the juniors (March 26) and then the beginning of the EKG course. For the sophomores, it means that almost everybody will be doing patient care themselves, and the freshmen will learn the words to Mitch Miller and remember them FOREVER!!! Those songs will pop up every now and then, usually when you least expect it.

My precious Seniors, it is almost time for you to fly! May 29 is just around the corner. The senior presentations are during the second week in May. You will all do a great job!!

Brave Juniors

What brave Juniors I have. They were very good when it came time for their Mantoux tests. Just a small little needle can do so much good. It will detect the presence of Tb or even the exposure to Tb. This needs to be done every year because we go into different health facilities with different residents. The students that are already working in a health care facility know that some places require the Mantoux Test every three months.

Tomorrow it is the Seniors turn and next week, the sophomores.

I will try and get some pictures on this blog in the next few days.

First Week Done!

Congratulations and thank you to the juniors and sophomores for getting their gmail accounts and contacting me. I have "shared" the appropriate documents for all but 2 of you. I still need to have 2 juniors contact me @ deborahcollins26@gmail.com

Sophomores you should have downloaded your shop syllabus, unit 39 notes, unit 32 notes, and sensory changes. I will be checking notebooks on Wednesday. You will also be having a CPR Test, and unit 39 quiz.

Juniors, you also should have downloaded your related syllabus and units 1 & 4. There will be a lab on Tuesday and a test on Wednesday . You will also be required to hand in the review for units 1 & 4 as well as the workbook answers for units 1 & 4 on Tuesday so we can review for the test.

Any questions? then comment! :)

New School Year

Hello Students

Mrs Boretti is back and teaching freshmen and seniors. I will still be teaching sophomores and juniors. Remember to bring in your signed papers and be in uniform for shop on the first day. (sophomores and seniors) School pictures for ids will be taken of the first few days of school. (more info to follow)

Please look for your old id. You will be required to wear them to clinical.

I will be requiring everyone to get a gmail account. I will be putting all of your paperwork on google apps. You will have access to all of the PowerPoint handouts, policies, syllabus, etc that you will need for class/shop. It will be your responsibility to print out your notes before class. I will no longer be handing out notes.

Right now this applies only to the sophomores and juniors. As Mrs Boretti gets comfortable, she may follow.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation and finish up your reading
